Timeline:
Pick up Pinewood Derby Kits - November Pack Meeting (Please contact your Den Leader if you didn't recieve one)
Builders Workshop - Come and design your car! We will have a band saw and drill press available to cut the shape of your car. Saturday, December 13th @ The Dexter's House, 4235 Pineview Lane North, Plymouth MN 55422 from 9AM - Noon.
Car Weigh in - Jan 20th Pack Meeting, we will inspect/weigh your cars, then keep them in container until the race.
Track setup and secondary Weigh in - Friday Jan 23rd, if you did not make it at weigh in, this is your last chance. AOL's and Adult leaders will be setting up the track and decorating for the race between 6:15p - 7:45p at St. Joesphs.
Race Day! - Satureday Jan 24th, races will begin at 9a with the Lions and will continue until all racing is over. Followed by awards. Should end around noon. There should be coffee and donuts available (usually for a small donation to a local troop).
RULES FOR BUILDING YOUR PINEWOOD DERBY CAR
This is about the Cub Scouts. Please make sure they are in charge of building the cars as much as possible based on their age and skill level. Proper adult supervision is required and it's okay to help out when needed, especially around power tools!
BSA’s Pinewood Derby Car Building Rules
According to the BSA's Cub Scout Leader How-To-Book, the general rules are as follows:
All cars must pass the following inspection to qualify for the race:
Width shall not exceed 2-3/4 inches.
Length shall not exceed 7 inches.
Weight shall not exceed 5 ounces.
Axles, wheels, and body shall be from the materials provided in the kit. Additional approved wheels can be purchased separately at the scout shop.
Wheel bearings, washers, and bushings are prohibited.
No lubricating oil may be used. Axles may be lubricated with powdered graphite.
The car shall not ride on any kind of spring.
The car must be free-wheeling, with no starting devices.
No loose materials of any kind are allowed in the car.

General SAFETY
Gather your safety essentials: dust mask, goggles, and latex gloves.
Wear eye protection at all times.
Monitor Cub Scouts' use of tools.
Wear a dust mask when appropriate.
Work in a well-lighted and well-ventilated area.
Consider wearing gloves when using sharp tools.
Do not wear loose-fitting clothing.
Do not melt lead; handle lead with care.
Follow all safety rules and precautions listed on the tools and products you use.
Keep your work area clean and organized.
Den Level: Each den will have a Top 3 for the fastest cars. The award will be a ribbon with a car , which can be worn on the uniform. Blue car for first place, white car for second place, red car for third place.
Pack Level:
Fastest car - The 1st place car in each Den will then race to find the top 3.
